Perfect Sail
North Sails transformation
Madsu’s like a completely new sailboat.
Dave Miller at North Sails Vancouver loft set me up with a perfectly cut, new 150% foresail.
I couldn’t believe the difference when I hoisted and trimmed. The boat took off, and is way better balanced now. 5+ knots in a light breeze, no problem today.
Oh yeah, this is sailing…
Another Crappy Day in Paradise
On board Madsu on a sunny and windy Saturday afternoon in Howe Sound heading out to the Straight of Georgia. We’re beating to windward doing about 5 knots and heeled about 12 degrees. Britannia is outbound from Squamish to Vancouver. The foredeck was packed with young girls yelling hello. In the foreground, clamped to my BBQ mount is our solar battery charger – it works like a charm.
EB’s on the tiller doing a respectable 5.2 knots SMG – got to like that GPS.
Meanwhile, the boys were up on the weather rail cooling off with a little toe dip in the salt chuck.
A Perpetual Long Weekend
T-Rex in the Wild in Vancouver
It does 0-60 mph in 3.92 seconds, pushing 1. 3 g’s. It’s street legal and categorized as a trike, sports a 1352 cc 4 cylinder engine and weighs just over 1000 lbs.
Built in Plessisville, Quebec – it’s T-Rex. Bring on the dino age.
See the set of T-Rex photos at Flickr.

What's With the Trees on Vancouver Island ?
Ok, I know it’s very junior high of me, but this tree kept calling out to me.
I say no more.
What Colour is British Columbia ?
When the sun’s shining, it’s definately a land of many blues.
You can see a fog bank further up Howe Sound – this was taken from the Langdale Ferry just heading over from the Sunshine Coast to Horseshoe Bay.
This one’s for Betty.

You Never Know What'll Come Out of the Bin
I’m sure this plate wrapper has been around for ages, but I was on my way to a memorial service on Sunday and this provided some much needed comic relief.
'Scuse Me While I Kiss the Sky
We had a great day riding the black runs off Sky Chair on Cypress this morning. I’m stiff and sore from some crazy play in the fresh snow – it was snowing when we got there and snowing when we left.
Early in the day we hit Rainbow for some speedy trips through the fluff – there were hardly any people on the run so my occasional wipe-outs didn’t disturb anyone (but me).
We interupted our Sky runs for a few romps down Humpty Dumpty which was a magic combination of kickers and deep powder.
Verchere and the Janitor
Sunrise Chair – Cypress Mountain – 14 Jan 07
I ran into Ian Verchere at Cypress Bowl today. Ian’s the Chief Creative Officer at ShiftControlMedia, a great guy, and great skier.
I know him from my stint at Radical Entertainment in 1998-99, back when the company was still on Homer Street in Yaletown.
Back then, for some reason, I wore my keys on a carabiner on my belt, and when I walked they’d jingle-jangle-jingle.
Because of where our team room was situation, I used to walk by Ian’s office about 20 times a day, keys jingling all the way. He was always really polite about it, but I’m pretty sure for the first while I worked there, he was convinced I was the new janitor.
Ian’s written a great book about the glory days of Whistler, VON1B0.
There’s a review, excerpts and loads of pictures in The Tyee. It’s really valuable having Ian’s insights into the little town, the people, and the psyche of the place before it turned into the world renowned destination it has become, and in the process completely changing what it was.
Grab it will it’s on sale, either at Amazonor Chapters.Indigo.
