Life was so simple back then, n'est-ce pas? BTW, perhaps you could get your parents a cordless phone which has inbuilt voice mail, thus no extra monthly charges? We also sometimes use this voice mail in lieu of caller ID. It saves having to pay the telco for the service plus helps screen out telemarketers etc. Enjoyed reading about your childhood exeriences — evocative in many respects of my own in both the UK & Ontario.
